Next stop, the Island of Self Involved

How long can a society last whose individual members have no regard for any member other than themselves?
We seem to be cultivating a culture in this country based on self involvement.
Inconsiderate is the word of the day. Not that this is breaking news to anyone.
Just one of many examples can be taken from my ride to work this morning. The woman in front of me was stopped at the intersection even though there was no one coming in any direction. I thought maybe her car had stalled so I waited patiently behind her until I noticed the real reason for the delay. She was dialing her cell phone. I'm not talking about a quick dial then move on out. She sat there blithely dialing over and over again while I sat behind her. Where do these people come from? I'm not really sure I want to know but I do wish they'd go back there. Maybe we should round up all these selfish types and put them on the proverbial island unto themselves. Yes, the Island of Self Involved. Where they can blare their thumping car stereos and chatter on their cell phones in movie theaters. My current fear is that this country is becoming that island.

I must disagree with my boyfriend Joeydiablo.
Just because someone has never read the book "Valley of the Dolls" doesn't mean they don't know the story. How many people have read "The Wizard of Oz"?...well I have and although it's a great story, there's nothing like the movie. Why? Because we grew up on it...watching it, that is. My sister and I watched "Valley of the Dolls" every time it came on TV the same way we watched "The Wizard of Oz" every time that movie came on. We can recite every line right along with Neely, Ann, Jen and all the rest...and you can't get any gayer than that. Points deducted: Zero.

Went to see the old seventies group 'Grand Funk Railroad' on Saturday night with Jose, Chuck and Chris, Rand and Junior, Sandy and Shawn.
There was surprisingly very little grass to be found but once we finally did find the grass, we also found my co-workers (not surprisingly).
The 'Railroad' sounded great even though I only knew two of their songs.
I've tested my lake twice now but will have to wait to find out what the numbers mean. Not much else going on...my trip to Atlanta has been postponed until November...which is fine with me since I was just there two weeks ago.

Well I just went back to read my old postings and noticed that I start each one with the word "Well".
Oh well...I know everyone on here will be holding their collective breath to see if I continue this trend now that I've become aware of it or abandon it for a new beginning word.
I'm not even sure myself which way I'll go at this point.
One thing is for sure though...I'm running out of adjectives to describe my moods. The one's in the drop-down menu never seem to quite hit the nail on the head. Sometimes I spend more time trying to think of a word that best describes my mood than I do on the actual journal entry itself. So from now on, I'm not going to waste so much time on this little detail. If I can't come up with a mood in 20 seconds or less, I'm just going to make a word up instead.
Happy Friday to everyone

Well it's been awhile so I wanted to bring myself up to date. I closed on my house last week, buying out my roommate. It's a little scary knowing that I'm responsible for the whole thing but I'll get over it.
On a lighter note, I think my new fav color is dark blue with just a splash of stethoscope.

Well I received my lake today.
A while back I enrolled in the Watershed Action Volunteer program here in Seminole County where they assign you a lake to monitor for water quality. We test for things like alkalinity, ph, chloride, etc. There's a stream that runs underneath the street I live on connecting Lake Florida to Lake Adelaide which the county assigned to me today. That's where I'll be collecting my samples to run the tests.

does this bus go any faster?

Well I can't wait for this weekend in Atlanta with my sweetie.
I'll be doing my part in the gas rationing thing by parking the beloved Jeep this evening and not using it again until next Tuesday (thanks to MARTA...Atlanta's mass transit). I will not be filling my tank until it's running on fumes like I always do. I refuse to give into the fear that our society seems to thrive on...so if you happen to see me stranded by the side of the road, please be sure to wave on your way by.

Newbie entry

Well it's been a few days since my BF (joeydiablo) set me up on this site so I'm way overdue for an update.
Been trying to get in touch with family and friends from back home but haven't been able to find much time...these won't be short phone calls since there's a lot of catching up to do.
Just found out that our company picnic is set for the weekend of October 15th at Daytona beach. I know you're just starting a new job baby but see what you can do about getting those days off (Fri Sat Sun)...can't imagine going without you.
One of these days I'll dig into this site a little more but you know how I can procrastinate.
Hey baby, a spell check for your screen name comes up with some pretty interesting alternative suggestions. I'd have to say I agree with most of them...especially edible, doable, portable and, of course, oddball.
